1. Monocle, July 2011 (Printed in UK)
2. Port Magazine, Spring 2011 (Printed in UK)
Monocle is one of those magazines that I can't stop buying, but I don't always read. It is a huge magazine full of information. I would venture to say that it is the most comprehensive news magazine on the market. I have read it for a couple of years now and I have a stack of them in my living room that are all half-read. It's tough to find time for reading during the semester.
This issue of Port is the launch issue and I have to say that it really does catch a vibe that goes beyond any other men's magazine. The tagline on the front is "The Intelligent Magazine For Men."
I haven't spent enough time reading Port to really get a good grasp on what they are trying to achieve with content, but to me it seems like a more souped up "sophisticated" version of Esquire. Where magazines like GQ and Esquire bank on the "cool factor" this magazine conveys a sense of luxury. There will be no articles about getting your 6-pack ready for summer, and there will be no pictures of half naked women (unless possibly featured in an ad for A.P.C.) This is a magazine for serious men. I am interested to see where the Fall issue goes.
